Germany has been at the forefront of engineering for generations. This article shows the difference in mentalities between Germans and Americans. While fossil fuels are very cheap, Germans are deciding to power their country with alternative energy because it is the right thing to do. Solar panels aren't as efficient or as cheap as oil; however, they are much more environmentally friendly. The BTU content of petroleum is so high, that finding a single equivalent fuel source that is environmentally sustainable in the next decade would be a miracle. American's should take a page out of Germany's book and decide to start using more environmentally acceptable power sources even though they are currently much more expensive. The right thing to do isn't always the easy thing to do.
